Angolan delegation left for solidarity meeting with Cuba

Havana, Jan 14 (RHC) The Angolan delegation to the 7th African Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba left today for South Africa and was seen off at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by the ambassador of the Caribbean nation, Óscar León.

The president of the Angolan League of Friendship with the Peoples, Elisa Salvador; the secretary general of the Angola Cuba Friendship Association, Fernando Jaime, and the president of the International Forum of Youth with Embassies (FIJE), Clinton Matias, make up the group.

The vice-president of Caimaneros (an association of Angolans who studied on the island), José Álvaro, the member of this organization, Carlos Pedro Miguel, and of FIJE, Dina Papa Candimba, will also participate.

At the farewell ceremony, the ambassador thanked the unconditional support and solidarity with Cuba from Angola, and in particular from these organizations, which are a sign of the historic friendship that exists between the two countries, he said.

The airport was also attended by the president of Caimaneros, Francisco Narciso Dicas, and the third secretary of the diplomatic mission in Luanda, Maribys Pérez. The 7th African Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will take place in Ngoniama, South Africa, from 15 to 17 January.

At least twenty countries from the continent will take part in the event, which seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas and initiatives to promote solidarity with the Caribbean nation, particularly in the face of the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States.

Different generations will participate in the event, including youth leaders and historical personalities; representative figures from the South African government are also expected to attend, as this edition will celebrate the 112th anniversary of the African National Congress (ANC) party.

Other highlights will include tributes to the national heroes of Cuba, José Martí, and Angola, Agostinho Neto, as well as to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

The meeting takes place every two years and Angola hosted the event in September 2010.The South African edition, which will be attended by the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, among other representatives of the Caribbean nation, is expected to become a space for the coordination of strategies.
