Vice President of Cuba ratified desire to strengthen ties with Africa

 

Havana, Jan 22 (RHC) The vice president of Cuba, Salvador Valdés, ratified today his country's willingness to strengthen ties with African countries, during a meeting with the president of the Ugandan Parliament, Anita Annet Among.

Valdés commented that the relations of the Caribbean nation with the continent are historic and are of total priority, and added that Cuban culture, identity and nationality have African roots.

He stressed that this second visit to Uganda also has the purpose of continuing to strengthen relations between both nations, and reiterated the island's willingness to promote ties in areas such as health and biotechnology, among others.

Meanwhile, the president of the Ugandan Parliament thanked the Caribbean nation for its actions to strengthen relations with her country.

The Cuban vice president traveled to Uganda to participate in the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Third Southern Summit, organized by the Group of 77.

In the latter, Cuba handed over the pro tempore presidency of the bloc to the host country, where it was received by the Ugandan president, Yoweri K. Museveni.

Other important moments were the meeting with his Ugandan counterpart, Jessica Alupo, and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of Cleared Trade. (Source: PL)
