Havana, March 27 (RHC) The Raquel Revuelta International Award, established in tribute to the renowned Cuban theater actress, was granted this Wednesday by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) on World Theater Day.

Boniface Ofongo, a philologist and natural researcher from the village of Omassa, in Cameroon, received the prestigious award presented by the president of that institution, Marta Bonet, who highlighted the work of this oral narrator.

Ofongo, as highlighted by Bonet, is an oral narrator who has dedicated his life to promoting African fables and myths.

In his words of acceptance of the award, the honoree pointed out that storytellers, oral narrators, are militants of a new form of cultural resistance. He added that as a narrator, he seeks to rescue the silenced characters who have built Africa.

The author of The Empire of the Captives argued that, by telling these stories, the identity of the people is also revealed.

The award ceremony concluded with the voice of the National Music Prize winner Beatriz Márquez, exponent of feeling and bolero.
