Havana, April 9 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez today proposed CELAC to issue an urgent communiqué to condemn the violation perpetrated by Ecuador against the Mexican embassy in Quito and the aggression against its diplomatic personnel.

During the Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to examine the breach of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the Cuban Foreign Minister requested the approval of a statement reflecting the feelings of the participants.

He called on the regional bloc to react with a firm and united voice in the face of these unacceptable events, which have an impact on the entire community.

According to the head of diplomacy of the Caribbean nation, the statement should urge the government of Ecuador to strictly comply with its international obligations and to act in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

It proposed to Honduras, in its capacity as president pro tempore of CELAC, that the document should call on the parties concerned to use dialogue or any other recourse within International Law to solve their differences.

Likewise, it should endorse the validity of the postulates of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace and the commitment of all the States of our region to its strict observance.

Rodriguez reiterated Havana's solidarity and support for Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and all his people in the face of the unacceptable violation and violation of its embassy in Quito.

"Mexico can and will be able to count on our disposition and willingness to accompany them in the actions they undertake in the face of this serious transgression," he stressed.

He also emphasized the condemnation of the act, which he described as a flagrant violation of International Law, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and Mexico's right to asylum and sovereignty; in addition to being an unacceptable act that admits no justification whatsoever.

He stated that Ecuador violated the principle of the inviolability of diplomatic facilities and their personnel and violated the physical integrity and dignity of Mexican officials, which is a reprehensible act.

He warned that the outrage against Mexico's sovereignty is alarming, and everyone has the responsibility to denounce it firmly; otherwise, a very serious precedent would be set, which would jeopardize international relations and cooperation between States, even beyond our region.

Dialogue and negotiation, he said, are the only acceptable ways to resolve differences between nations, in accordance with the principles of International Law and in full compliance with the Charter of the United Nations.

Rodríguez also thanked Honduras for the timely convocation, and expressed his support for the convening of a Summit Meeting of Presidents and Prime Ministers of the Community at the end of this week.   (Source: Prensa Latina)
