Representatives of Cuba and the European Union in Brussels are carrying out these days meetings and exchanges of criteria in the context of the 4th Implementation Cycle of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement signed by Havana and Brussels in 2016

Havana, April 24 (RHC) Cuba will discuss today with the European Union the intensification of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island and the obstacle it represents to the normal development of Havana-Brussels ties.

The parties will hold the 4th Dialogue between Cuba and the EU on Unilateral Coercive Measures in Brussels, a forum that will continue the discussions on the topic held in virtual format in March 2021.

The Cuban delegation, headed by the director general of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Foreign Ministry, Rodolfo Benítez, will update the bloc of 27 member states on the intensification of the siege applied by Washington despite the broad global rejection this policy generates.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the effects of Cuba's inclusion in the unilateral US list of countries sponsoring terrorism will also be presented.

Just days after leaving the White House, in January 2021 after his electoral setback, then-President Donald Trump ordered the reinclusion of the largest of the Antilles in a list that lacks international support and endorsement, as part of the more than 240 measures to deepen the scope of the blockade. His successor in the Presidency, Joseph Biden, has maintained the vast majority of these hostile actions.

The visiting delegation and the EU will also evaluate the effects on their economic, commercial and financial ties and on joint cooperation projects as a consequence of the extraterritorial component of the siege.

The United States persecutes, pressures and sanctions third parties for their links with Cuba, a crusade that prevents European citizens, banks and companies from interacting under normal conditions with the Caribbean country.

On the European side, the deputy director general for the Americas of the European External Action Service, Pelayo Castro, will co-chair the forum with Benítez.

These days, representatives of Cuba and the EU in Brussels are carrying out a busy agenda of meetings and exchanges of criteria in the context of the 4th Implementation Cycle of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement signed by Havana and Brussels in 2016. (Source: PL)
