Havana, May 1 (RHC) The Matanzas Pharmaceutical Museum today reaches its 60th anniversary by exhibiting in its areas more than five million original pieces, furniture and buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The former French pharmacy of Dr. Triolet Figueroa, after being donated by its owners, became a Pharmaceutical Museum on May 1, 1964. It has preserved an important cultural legacy that distinguishes the facility as the only one of its kind in the world. It is also the first pharmaceutical museum in Latin America.

The celebrations include an exchange with the community through guided tours for national and foreign visitors, activities with other centers in the province, and close links with educational centers such as the University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas.

According to Marcia Brito, the focus of the program will be the awarding today of the 60th Anniversary of the Matanzas Pharmaceutical Museum distinction to 60 personalities and institutions that have worked and supported the museum staff.

The building is the same as the one inaugurated in 1882 for Dr. Ernesto Triolet's French Pharmacy. It has no additions or discarded sections in its original layout, and is well preserved.

It received the National Restoration Award in 2008 and the Conservation Award in 2020, granted by the National Council of Cultural Heritage to Monuments.

Personalities of Cuban society such as Arnaldo Tamayo, the first Latin American cosmonaut to travel to space, the broadcaster Eduardo Rosillo, and many foreign ambassadors have visited the Pharmaceutical Museum in recognition of its broad cultural, heritage and historical value. (Fuente: PL)
