Havana, June 5 (ACN)-- Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, today regretted the death of the prominent journalist Pedro de la Hoz, José Martí National Journalism Award, at 71 years old.

 "We regret the death of the outstanding journalist Pedro de la Hoz, José Martí National Journalism Prize winner and who for more than 35 years was part of the @Granma_Digital team.  Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, UNEAC colleagues and friends."

 Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the PCC, also regretted the loss of whom he described as a man who accompanied the Revolution and its culture from his sagacious, versatile, profound and committed pen.

 In the same social network, Alpidio Alonso Grau, Minister of Culture of Cuba, added to the pain at the departure of the prominent intellectual, also the José Antonio Fernández de Castro National Prize for Cultural Journalism (1999) and the Jorge Enrique Mendoza Written Press Prize (2009).

 "The death of the beloved journalist and writer Pedro de la Hoz, one of our great intellectuals, hurts a lot.  We are going to greatly miss his analytical rigor, his critical courage, the acuity and clarity of his decolonizing thought.  We will not forget you, brother."

 Pedro de la Hoz fought, with absolute courage, a strong battle against the disease that ended his life on June 5th.   He continued his work as vice president of UNEAC and the Aponte Commission and maintained his work until the end of his days as a true soldier of the word and culture, expressed UNEAC in its message of condolences to the renowned intellectual.

 Born in 1953 in Cienfuegos, and graduated in Journalism from the University of Havana in 1976, De la Hoz arrived at the Granma newspaper in 1988, invited to work in the Official Organ of the Communist Party of Cuba, by his colleague and friend Marta Rojas.

Without abandoning his work at the newspaper, he was an advisor to Armando Hart around 1994, and the first director of the magazine Artecubano, of the National Council of Plastic Arts. As part of the chapter of the Network in Defense of Humanity, he participated in forums held in Rome, Caracas, San Salvador de Bahía and Sao Paulo.

He authored the books Africa in the Cuban Revolution (Ed. Letras Cubanas, 2004); Like the first day (Ed. Letras Cubanas, 2009); Durban, ten years later (Ed, Letras Cubanas, 2011); Hotel Nacional de Cuba, revelations of a legend, (Ed. Capitán San Luis). In co-authorship with Luis Báez, he signed: Evo, Espuma de Plata (Ed. Plaza, 2008); the testimonies We are all Evo (Ed.Plaza, 2009); Freedom Caravan (Ed. April, 2009); We are all People (Ed. Plaza, 2010); The parents of a Son of the Country, (April Ed.). Together with fellow journalist Alberto Muñoz Betancourt, he published the testimony Misioneros del Alba (Casa Editora Abril, 2010).  The most recent of his publications is Fidel and Mandela (Ed. Ocean Sur, 2022).

 The prominent journalist and writer was among the founders of Cubadebate and the panelists of the Round Table (la Mesa Redonda).
