Havana, July 1 (RHC)-- The Havana-based news agency Prensa Latina reports that the attempted coup d'état, carried out on June 26th in Bolivia, should today reinforce the maximum attention of defenders of democracy in Brazil and other Latin American countries.
This is how an editorial on the "Brasil 247" portal warns, which indicates that such events continue to be covered in a strange fog.
The news agency denounces that another military uprising in the neighboring country was carried out by General Juan José Zúñiga, "commander of the Armed Forces dismissed days before by President Luis Arce for trying to interfere in the electoral process with statements against the re-election of former President Evo Morales."
The site ensures that the situation in Bolivia remains unstable since the bloody 2019 coup d'état, commanded by Jeanine Añez, currently serving a prison sentence.
Whatever the truth is now, it is important to point out some similarity factors that can and should reinforce the need for maximum attention from defenders of democracy, the news page warns.
"Brazil 247" states that, "with relevant exceptions, there is a link, if not submission, of the military of those countries to the powers of the United States and the West, these being the foundations of the way in which these groups see the world." Supported by this ideology, the text continues, the military in Bolivia as in Brazil "constitute a kind of State within the State in permanent tension with the sovereign projects of national emancipation chosen by the voters."
Meanwhile, the news agency points out that they have contempt for politics and parties, but they tolerate when they do not adhere to extreme right-wing militancy.
For "Brasil 247," given the cyclical threat of coups, such as the one attempted in the South American giant on January 8, 2023 at the apex of the escalation led by former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-22), the measures are mandatory.
"The first is to perceive the importance of maintaining unity around President (Luiz Inácio) Lula (da Silva), overcoming tensions, disagreements and divisions within the democratic and popular field," lists the portal.
It calls for exorcising new attempts at riots or coups - in Bolivia, Brazil and in the region - and ensuring a complete investigation and the most fair and legal punishment for all those involved.
