Cuba Reaffirms Need for Unity in Latin America and the Caribbean
Havana, July 11 (RHC) The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, reiterated Wednesday the need for unity in Latin America and the Caribbean in the face of the persistent attempts by U.S. imperialism to thwart the independence processes in the region.
Speaking virtually at the 10th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP), he reiterated his country's rejection of the recent coup attempt against the government of Luis Arce in Bolivia.
"We cannot allow the return of the infamous attitudes and actions that have sown such a painful memory in our America and that seek to reverse the will of the people," Díaz-Canel said, describing as inadmissible the attempt to eliminate the legitimately established constitutional order by force of arms.
He underscored the validity and the need to vigorously defend the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, approved 10 years ago in Havana during the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac).
At times like these we must multiply solidarity in the face of the political polarization and division of our societies promoted by those who oppose unity and integration in Latin America and the Caribbean, he said.
The Cuban leader pointed out that if the ultra-right succeeds in its objectives, repression, persecution of social leaders, cruel neoliberalism, the abandonment of natural resources and all the progress made in regional integration will be reversed.
He emphasized the urgency of rejecting the coup methods that are constantly emerging and denounced the use of modern tools of manipulation that are trying to stop the progressive political processes in Latin America, among which he mentioned those of Venezuela and Nicaragua.
"ALBA-TCP and our alliance must be and will continue to be in the first trench of this battle against the demons of interference, interventionism, neo-colonialism, the Monroist spirit that, 200 years after its formulation, continues to mark the gaze and actions of the Empire toward our America," he said.
In his speech, the Cuban president deplored the loss of life and material damage caused by the recent passage of Hurricane Beryl through the Caribbean and reaffirmed his country's willingness to collaborate in the recovery of the affected nations. (Source: Prensa Latina)
