Cuba advances in its legislative process

Havana, July 22 (RHC) Cuba is today immersed in an intense legislative activity aimed at updating the country's legal framework and putting into practice the norms established in the 2019 Constitution.

According to Deputy Leidys Labrador, the new laws approved by the National Assembly of Popular Power (Parliament) come to order essential processes within society and will contribute to strengthening the country's legal system.

Since the last legislature, she explained to Prensa Latina, the parliamentarians have been working on the analysis of draft laws and it is a process that does not end, it continues depending on the legal or juridical needs of the Caribbean nation.

She considered that the Law on Transparency and Access to Information, the Law on Administrative Procedures, the Law on Honorary Titles and the Laws on Migration, Foreigners and Citizenship, approved during the recently concluded third ordinary session of the Legislative Body, were of great importance because of their impact on citizens. With regard to the Law on Administrative Procedures, she said that it responds to the social responsibility that State institutions have toward the Cuban people.

She emphasized that the legal instrument on honorary titles "will make it possible to regulate the process of recognizing people who are worthy of decorations and medals due to their merits in various fields".

“These laws are necessary and have been requested for a long time,” commented Labrador, who also highlighted the importance of the Citizenship and Foreigners Laws, which establish the status of Cuban citizens, as well as that of people who are in the country for different reasons.

The deputy acknowledged that some aspects of the Migration Law have generated debate, but emphasized that the law seeks to regulate the migratory process in a fair and equitable manner, including the possibility of recovering citizenship on a one-time basis.

The Cuban legislative schedule foreseen for this year includes a group of 17 laws, six of which have already been approved and the rest are in the process of drafting, conciliation or consultation (Source: Prensa Latina)
