Cuba and St. Vincent and the Grenadines Begin New Phase of Cooperation

Havana, Aug. 15 (RHC) A new stage of cooperation between Cuba and St. Vincent and the Grenadines began Wednesday with the arrival in Kingstown of three Cuban engineers from the system of companies of the Cuban Electrical Union (UNE).

The arrival of the experts follows an agreement between Vinlec (the Cuban Electricity Company) and the Empresa de Servicios de Ingeniería Eléctrica Cubana SA (Siecsa).

The engineers were welcomed by Rohan Robertson, director of Vinlec's Generation Department, and the Cuban ambassador, Carlos Ernesto Rodríguez.

The diplomat encouraged the professionals to work hard and remain focused and disciplined, while expressing his assurance that they will contribute a lot to this brotherly people.

He reiterated that Cuba maintains solid relations of friendship and cooperation with this nation, especially after the impact of Hurricane Beryl, which caused so much destruction during its recent passage.

Beryl made landfall in Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines on July 1 as a Category 4 hurricane, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake in that area of the Caribbean.

After the impact of the meteorological phenomenon, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves assured that at least a thousand homes in the south of his country must be urgently rebuilt, and the island of Union is expected to be without electricity until the end of the year due to the damage suffered to the transmission network.
