Sri Lankan president and Cuban ambassador discuss possibilities of strengthening collaboration in health

Havana, Oct 2 (RHC) The President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the Ambassador of Cuba, Andrés González, discussed possibilities of strengthening cooperation in health, mainly in the fight against dengue.

In a meeting at the Secretariat of the Presidency, the diplomat conveyed to the president the congratulatory message of the head of State of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, for Dissanayake's victory in the recent presidential elections of the South Asian nation.

The talks also focused on strengthening long-term diplomatic relations and lasting friendship between the two countries.

For his part, the Sri Lankan president highlighted the Caribbean nation's willingness to provide its efforts to combat dengue in Sri Lanka, and its experience to strengthen public health initiatives aimed at eradicating the disease.

In a message in response to Díaz-Canel's good wishes for the new position, Dissanayake thanked his Cuban counterpart for his support in building a solid relationship between the two countries.

Sri Lanka and Cuba will celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations in 2024. Havana established its embassy in Colombo in 1960, while the Sri Lankan authority did so in 1987. During these more than six decades, both countries have maintained excellent diplomatic relations. (Source: Prensa Latina)
