Havana, October 24 (RHC)-- "Dear friend, it is a great pleasure for us to have your visit, which is the reaffirmation of the historic relations that exist between our parliaments, governments and peoples," said the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to Peter Katjavivi, president of the National Assembly of Namibia, on Wednesday night.

During the dialogue, which took place minutes after the President of the National Defense Council returned from a tour of the province of Guantánamo, the Cuban president said that "these parliamentary exchanges support and strengthen bilateral ties between our governments."

In a special way, the Head of State reiterated to the distinguished visitor his condolences for the physical loss of President Hage Geingob, who died in February of this year, whom he considered to be "an excellent friend of Cuba," who "followed the line of friendship founded by the leaders of both nations, Sam Nujoma and Fidel Castro."

For the "historic support of Namibia to Cuba's fight against the blockade" on the international stage, Díaz-Canel thanked his interlocutor, to whom he also commented on the affection that comes from the Namibian people to each Cuban delegation that visits that sister land.

He also expressed with deep affection the relationship that the Namibians who have studied in our country maintain with Cuba, many of whom, he recalled, currently hold important responsibilities in the Government of that African nation, and "are promoters of the ties of friendship between our peoples and contribute to their strengthening."

"It is a pleasure to have you visiting Cuba," he stressed.

The President of the Namibian National Assembly, who has been on an official visit to our country since last Saturday, thanked the Cuban leader for the opportunity of the meeting: "We have felt welcome, despite the challenges that Cuba is currently facing."

This gesture, he stressed, is "testimony of the close relations that exist between our two countries."

During his stay in the Greater Antilles, where he arrived at the head of a delegation of Namibian parliamentarians from different parties, Peter Katjavivi held official talks with his Cuban counterpart, member of the Political Bureau Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State.
