According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson, Beijing will maintain its firm stance in favor of international equity and justice and will continue to support the Cuban people in their resistance against external interference

Havana, Oct 31 (RHC) The Chinese Foreign Ministry today welcomed the overwhelming support of the international community for Cuba in opposition to the US embargo and called for the immediate termination of this hostile policy.

"Once again, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on this issue with a resounding majority of 187 votes, demonstrating unwavering support for the Cuban people in their just struggle to defend their sovereignty and resist external interference and the embargo," said Lin Jian, the spokesperson, to the Cuban press.

In Lin's view, this demonstrates that the unilateral and coercive actions of the United States, which seriously violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, are overwhelmingly condemned by the international community.

He denounced the profound suffering caused by these coercive measures to the people of the island.

"According to data from Cuba, the US embargo over the past six decades has cost Cuba more than 160 billion dollars, of which more than five billion dollars were lost between March 2023 and February 2024, affecting almost all areas of subsistence, including food, medicine, and energy," he said.

Lin reiterated China's opposition to this siege and Washington's sanctions, and added that since 1992, for 32 consecutive years, China has voted in favor of the Cuba resolution, calling for an end to the embargo at the UN General Assembly.

He emphasized that Beijing will maintain its firm stance in favor of international equity and justice and will continue to support the Cuban people in their resistance against external interference, in defense of their sovereignty and national dignity.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted yesterday the thirty-second resolution demanding the end of the US embargo against the largest island in the Caribbean with 187 votes in favor, two against, and one abstention.

Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, demanded the end of the embargo and the lifting of unilateral sanctions against the island and called for removing Cuba from the list of countries allegedly supporting terrorism. (Source: PL)
