Havana, November 16 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel toured Old Havana this Saturday, in the context of the 505th anniversary of the village of San Cristóbal de La Habana.

The president began his agenda at the so-called Cubo, the former Muelle de Caballería, the main point of the city's central sewage system, reported the Presidency in X.

Díaz-Canel learned about the investments being made to alleviate the evacuation of liquid waste from five Havana municipalities, with funds donated by Spanish institutions.

They explained to the head of state that work is being carried out in the Casa Blanca grating chamber and pumping station with works that include the acquisition and placement of gates, valves and the repair of the automatic cleaning system of this infrastructure, in addition to motors for the Casa Blanca pumping station.

Díaz-Canel learned that the investments will have a major impact on the municipalities of Old Havana and Central Havana, where, due to blockages in the system, they face a critical situation with liquid waste that causes discharges.

The dignitary also visited the former Sarrá Palace, located on Havana's Malecón, which has been rescued by the Office of the Historian of the City (OHC), with the support of the Saudi Fund for Development.

Perla Rosales, deputy director of the OHC, commented that the building will host the Nodo Habana project, a space for dialogue between the arts and design, a venue for various cultural and academic events, with theater and music playing a leading role.

The palace will be managed by the local development project Sinfiltro, and will host the next Architecture Biennial.

The president went to the 84th district of the Vedado-Malecon popular council where he shared with youth and student brigades and workers of state institutions involved in the sanitation of this part of the city.

“El Vedado is already an area that has recovered from the damages and now the commitment is to make the cleaning sustainable, with the specialized work of the Comunales and the support of the neighbors”, insisted Díaz-Canel.

The same experience was verified in the municipality of El Cerro, where workers and neighbors of the territory cleaned the area around the traffic circle of the Sports City.

He affirmed that it has been proved that it is possible. “This city is beautiful, but we have to go healing the wounds,” he emphasized. (Source: ACN)
