Meeting of Communication Researchers begins in Cuba

The meeting addressed topics related to Artificial Intelligence and its use in information production

 

Havana, Dec 3 (RHC) The 11th International Conference on Information and Communication, ICOM-2024, begins today as a platform for addressing issues such as the ethical implications of AI in knowledge production.

The conference, which will run until the 6th at the Havana Convention Center, opens with a speech by the Spanish scholar Francisco Caballero on the political ecology of communication and the geopolitics of information.

Additionally, Washington Uranga, an Argentinian journalist, educator, and communication researcher, will present a lecture on social communication in the current media and cultural landscape from a Latin American and Caribbean perspective.

The conference, organized by the Faculty of Communication at the University of Havana (FCOM), will also feature an exhibition which will provide opportunities for academic, exhibition, cultural, social, and networking activities in the same space.

As stated in a press conference by the Dean of the FCOM, Ariel Terrero, experts and researchers from universities in Cuba and other countries have confirmed their attendance.

One of the goals of the conference is to coordinate research efforts with other academic institutions worldwide and contribute to the promotion of the social significance of communication and information.

Déborah Torres, Vice Dean of Information and Technological Development at the Faculty and head of the Scientific Committee, emphasized that the conference will explore various cultural, community, and historical dynamics.

Keynote speeches, panel discussions, presentations, guided tours to notable locations, and project presentations will be among the activities participants will engage in.

The conference will also feature debates on topics such as Culture and Power: Cultural Industries and Public Policies and Professional Training in the Field of Information and Communication. (Source: Prensa Latina)
