This edition of the British Culture Week celebrated diversity, equality and inclusivity, in the context of the fight for the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community
Havana, Dec 9 (RHC) The 12th edition of the British Culture Week in Cuba, a celebration of diversity, equality, and inclusivity, reached its climax with the performance of «Muévete» at the National Theater in Havana.
A fusion of rock and roll and timba set the rhythm for the closing show, inspired by the music of iconic bands and artists such as Queen, Eurythmics, Elton John, San Smith, Dua Lipa, and Los Van Van.
The overall artistic and musical direction of the performance was guided by Andrés Levin, with Ernán López-Nussa, Osdalgia, Vannia Borges, and Ernesto Blanco, among other guest musicians. The choreography was created by maestro Santiago Alfonso, Claudia Molinet, Norge Cedeño, César, and Lázaro Saavedra.
The show also featured projections of reflections of various individuals on the large screen, as well as a call for equality from the renowned British actor Ian Mackellen and Jorge Perugorría, with the film «Strawberry and Chocolate» serving as a reference from cinema to make the LGBTIQ+ community visible.

In this context, the British Ambassador to Cuba, Sir George Hollingbery, highlighted the reflection of these themes in literature and referred to the work of Oscar Wilde, particularly the book «The Portrait of Dorian Grey». The outstanding novel by Virginia Woolf, «Orlando», was also mentioned during the evening.
The Second Head of Mission and Consul of the British Embassy in Havana, Cathy Bass, emphasized the importance of bringing together people who often have no opportunity to interact, but who are part of this effort to defend diversity.
She also explained that approximately ten events were held during the day, to make struggle for equality visible, as well as to defend the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community and to build a bridge between Cuba and the United Kingdom for the betterment of society. (Source: Prensa Latina)
