Singh is widely regarded as a key figure in the transformation of India's economic landscape and the driving force behind the subsequent economic expansion
Havana, Dec 27 (RHC) The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, conveyed his condolences to the people and Government of India on the passing this Thursday of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, at the age of 92.
In his X profile, Díaz-Canel recalled that in 2006, Singh visited Cuba during the 14th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.
A professional economist, Singh served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. He is widely regarded as a key figure in the transformation of India's economic landscape and the driving force behind the subsequent economic expansion. This was achieved through the policies he implemented during his tenure as Finance Minister in the 1990s.
Born in 1932 in the province of Western Punjab – present-day Pakistan -, Singh was a member of the historic Congress Party, which was founded by the Nehru-Gandhi family. He was the last member of this party to serve as Prime Minister. (Source: Prensa Latina)
