Havana, January 30 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel spoke Thursday with several personalities participating in the VI International Conference for the Balance of the World, which is taking place at the Havana Convention Center.

The head of state met with the Vice President of International Affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Rander Peña, with whom he discussed the current challenges of the region, in light of which it is increasingly necessary to strengthen integration and the mechanisms that exist.

He also spoke with the member of the European Parliament for the Spanish left-wing party Podemos, Irene Montero, who was interested in the current situation that the Caribbean country is going through as a result of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

The MEP and women's rights activist referred to the consequences that the actions of the new Donald Trump administration could bring for Cuba and the world.

For his part, the president stressed that Cuba's dialogue with the European Union has been maintained despite attempts to interrupt it.

According to a report from the Presidency of the Republic, the dignitary also received the American writer, political scientist and activist David Adler, general coordinator of the Progressive International.

During the meeting, Adler described the international conference as a transcendental space to share Cuban resistance strategies "in the face of the avalanches of pressure that reach the island from its country, and that can contribute a lot to the region."

This Thursday, Díaz-Canel met with the president of the Senate of Grenada, Dessima Williams, who described Cuba as a friendly nation and "a tireless fighter and defender of just causes."

Later, the president referred to the good state of the historic relations between his country and Algeria, and ratified the will to continue strengthening them, when speaking with the president of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba in the National People's Assembly of that African country, Feitas Benlakehal.

He also highlighted the ties of friendship and brotherhood that unite Cuba and Russia, after receiving the first vice president of the International Relations Committee of the State Duma and coordinator of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, Dmitri N. Novikov.

"A warm greeting to President Putin, to the President of the Russian Duma and to all our Russian friends," said Díaz-Canel at the meeting and then praised the excellent relations that exist between both countries, which has allowed them to reach "important consensus on cooperation issues."

"We appreciate," he said, "the constant denunciations of the blockade against Cuba and its inclusion on the list of nations supposedly sponsoring terrorism."
