Díaz-Canel at event for anniversary of La Coubre steamship explosion

Havana, March 4 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, today led the event to commemorate and denounce the terrorist acts that occurred on the La Coubre steamship.

The president was accompanied by members of the Political Bureau, Manuel Marrero, Prime Minister of the Republic and Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Livan Izquierdo Alonso, member of the Central Committee and First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Havana, and Yanet Hernández Pérez, Governor of the capital, among other personalities.

As every March 4, the country remembers this unfortunate event and condemns imperialist actions to undermine the revolutionary process.

By holding an anti-imperialist trial in the same place where this tragedy occurred, Cubans demand this criminal act and reaffirm their commitment to the Homeland.

La Coubre, a French ship carrying weapons, was in the Havana port when it was the target of a CIA sabotage bombing that claimed the lives of over 100 Cubans..

Sixty-five years after the event, the explosion of this ship constitutes one of the saddest pages in the history of Cuba, whose instigator was the U.S. government. (Source: ACN)
