Havana, November 6 (RHC)-- A delegation of some 90 French solidarity with Cuba activists is currently here in Cuba, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first trip here organized by the LVJ-Voyages Association.

The French solidarity activists arrived in Cuba on November 1st and will stay until the 12th. During their stay they will fulfill a comprehensive program of activities that includes visits to sites of historic, social-economic, cultural and tourist interest of the Caribbean island nation.

The LVJ-Voyages Association was founded in 1958. The aim was, and continues to be, that of offering the generations of French citizens born after World War II the possibility to travel abroad and learn first hand about and understand world events, particularly in the socialist countries.

Association President Jean-Claude Kennedy recalled that the first trip to Cuba was organized in 1964, after the triumph of the Revolution. 'By then, Cuba was already suffering the effects of the unfair and genocidal blockade imposed by the United States', said the president of the solidarity association.

He went on to express that this year's trip here is very significant and that the aim is that this new group of French solidarity activists learn first hand about the reality of a small, developing nation that is struggling each day to defend its sovereignty and independence.

'These trips are a way to express our solidarity with peoples like the Cuban people. These trips facilitate understanding and contribute to building peace, and we will continue working in that sense,' he concluded.
