Cuban First Vice President Meets with Visiting Spanish Foreign Minister

Havana, November 26 (RHC) -– Cuban First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel held official talks on Tuesday afternoon with His Excellency José Manuel García-Margallo y Marfil, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, who is paying an official visit to Cuba.

During the meeting, the top level officials discussed the prospects of bilateral economic cooperation, mainly focusing on the trade and investment sector, given the new context brought about by Cuba's ongoing economic reforms. They also discussed issues of mutual interest of the international and regional agenda.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Spanish foreign minister met with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, with whom he reviewed the progress of relations in the political sphere.

The ministers vowed to strengthen the relationship between Cuba and Spain and recognized the importance of the ongoing process of normalization of relations between the European Union and Cuba.

García-Margallo was accompanied by Juan Francisco Montalbán Carrasco, Spanish ambassador to Cuba, Juan Jose Buitrago, Director, Office of the Minister, among other officials. While, on the Cuban side was present Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra Diaz, among other Foreign Ministry officials.

Later, in a statement read to the press, García-Margallo referred to the economic reforms underway in the Caribbean island, among other issues that included the decentralization of economic decisions and monetary union.

"This decentralization (the Cuban economic system is experiencing) would lead to greater economic growth, which will translate in greater prosperity for Cubans".
