Havana, February 5 (PL-RHC)-- U.S. writer Toba Singer has announced she will launch a book on the father of Cuban school of ballet, Fernando Alonso, on April 28th, at the San Francisco Public Library.
Former first dancer of the Cuban National Ballet and the American Ballet Theater in the United States, Jose Manuel Carreño, will share with participants some of his experiences along with Alonso, one of the founders of ballet in Cuba.
According to Singer, no place in the world has a so rigorous studio as that of Alonso, compared to the renowned schools of ballet in France, Italy, Denmark, Russia, and England, which he took as a basis to design his definitive methodology.
Many teachers have a kind of sensibility, but there is no program to train hundreds of students and turn them into professional dancers, while training them as great teachers.
According to the author, Alonso shaped many excellent dancers in several generations since he founded the academy in 1950 in collaboration with his then wife, Alicia Alonso, whose statements are included in the book.
Azari Plizestki, Ramona de Saa, Menia Martinez, Jorge Esquivel, Aurora Bosch, Lazaro and Joel Carreño, Lorena and Lorna Feijoo, John White, Donald Saddler and Carlos Acosta, among others, also gave their views and personal stories about the master teacher.
Singer's volume has been launched in Houston, New York, San Francisco and London.
