Washington, February 13 (RHC) -- Washington's migratory policy towards Cuba, forged during the Cold War, is obsolete and must be reviewed by the U.S. Congress, an editorial published in the The Los Angeles Times points out.

The newspaper editorial says the economic blockade and other U.S. sanctions against the island must be the center of Congressional debate, while noting that Cuban immigrants should be treated in the same way as immigrants from other countries.

In a similar editorial, The New York Times pointed out on January 31st that the Cuban Adjustment Act is a relic of the Cold War and must be eliminated, saying it grants unique privileges to those who arrive in the U.S. from Cuba by illegal means.

Cuba and United States announced last December 17th their decision to work for the re-establishment of diplomatic relations and initiate a process towards the normalization of bilateral ties, broken by Washington over half a century ago.
