Havana, February 19 (RHC) -- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez met with Nancy Pelosi, Democratic chief of the U.S. House of Representatives, visiting the island as a part of efforts to re-establish ties between Havana and Washington.

According to Cuba’s foreign ministry, the two sides discussed points associated to the present context of ties between the two nations, together with restoring diplomatic relations, opening embassies and lifting the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

Pelosi arrived in Havana on Tuesday at the head of a group of nine Democratic congressional representatives. This is the first official delegation of the House of Representatives to visit Cuba after the historic announcement of December 17th –- when Cuba and the United States announced the decision to resume work for the resumption of diplomatic relations.

The U.S. congressional group also plans to meet with representatives of civil society including the archbishop of Havana, Cardinal Jaime Ortega, among others.

On Monday, a group of three Democratic senators left the island after a visit of several days. They advocated a greater trade relationship between the two countries.
