Guantanamo, March 28 (RHC)--—Cuban Parliament president Esteban Lazo said in eastern Guantanamo province that strengthening the economy is the main political task in today's Cuba.

During a meeting with political and government leaders, Lazo stressed the need to increase all productions by noting that “the only thing that contributes enough wealth is efficient labor.”

The legislative leader called for an increase in local coffee, cocoa and sugar production, since these are the main economic areas in the eastern territory.

Addressing the current partial election process, Lazo stressed the democratic principles of Cuba and the role of the municipal delegates nominated and elected by the people.

He said these delegates, or councilors constitute the basis of the performance of the Cuban Parliament and noted the hard work they carry out to solve social problems.

Some accuse Cuba of violating human rights without observing all this country has contributed to the wellbeing of its people, said Lazo as he underscored the far-reaching approach of the Cuba social system.
