Havana, July 10 (RHC)-- The Tenth International Convention on Environment and Development ends today in Havana, after five days of meetings on topics of interest in this area.

Speaking to reporters in Havana, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Thai Lai considered that the meeting provided a good opportunity to foster cooperation among nations.

Lai also said that the international community is engaged in the analysis and summary of the results obtained in implementing the Millennium Development Goals, drawn up this year.

The Vietnamese deputy minister warned that the biggest internal obstacle of Vietnam to achieve those goals in the environmental sector is linked with rapid urbanization, industrialization and modernization, which causes wastewater and polluted air, among other damages.

During the Convention, over 1,200 professionals debated issues such as Sustainability Science, Disaster Risk, Environmental Management and Sustainable Land Management.

The most represented nations at the event were Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina, along with the attendance of delegates from the United Nations and regional institutions.
