Havana, September 30 (RHC)-- The Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), founded by the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro on November 15, 1999, received in Havana an Institutional Accreditation Certificate, granted by the Accreditation Board of the Republic of Cuba.

The opinion was based on interviews with teachers and students, inspections of all areas, as well as controls on educational activities, according to a report on the TV program “Mesa Redonda.”

To grant this category, they took into account the high social impact ELAM has, with more than 26,750 graduates from 90 countries to meet the health needs of other nations.

The event was chaired by Doctor Roberto Morales Ojeda and Rodolfo Alarcón, Public Health and Superior Education Ministers, respectively, the rector of ELAM, Dr. Rafael Gonzalez Ponce de Leon, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba.

The institution won 30 awards granted by the Academy of Sciences of Cuba and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment -- in recognition of the prestige at the national and international levels of the health professionals graduated of ELAM.
