Havana, October 10 (RHC-PL) -- The blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than five decades has caused serious damage to communications and Information Technology (IT).

This siege is the main obstacle in allowing the Cubans to have an adequate infrastructure to achieve greater access to internet.

A report presented by Cuba to the UN General Assembly stated that the latter is happening because the United States has captured the global emporium of information technologies and exercises a hegemonic control over that activity.

As a result of this situation, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers that provides IP addresses and names to the rest of the world is limited in providing services to Cuba, being subject to the laws of the Federal Office for Communications and the Department of State of the U.S. government.

The report, which will be discussed in the October 27 session by the General Assembly, stated that despite the visits to the island by Google senior managers and the strong interest to introduce their products and services in the Cuban market, this has been impossible because of the blockade.

A total of damages caused to the Cuban State in this area only in the last year recorded losses estimated at $57,122,900 USD.

Those losses are associated to lost incomes and the geographical relocation of trade, chapters totaling $38 million USD for the Cuban Telecommunications Enterprise (ETECSA).

This is happening while a malicious media campaign tries to blame the Cuban government for not increasing Internet service and other communications in the blockaded country.
