Washington, October 13 (RHC)-- The Cuban band Buena Vista Social Club will perform on Thursday at the White House during a reception that President Barack Obama will give on the Hispanic Heritage Month.
U.S. government sources said that Buena Vista Social Club is the first Cuba-based band to perform at the White House in the past 50 years, PL news agency reported on Tuesday.
Obama is scheduled to give a statement during the Hispanic Heritage Month ceremony, which runs until October 15th.
The music project gathered outstanding figures in the 1990s thanks to the efforts of US guitarist Ry Cooler. The band, which was named after a Havana social music club, has performed in countless stages around the world over the past two decades.
