China Donates Air Quality Monitoring Equipment to Cuba

Havana, October 30 (RHC)-- Cuba received on Thursday a Chinese government donation of high-tech equipment to monitor air quality in towns of the capital, which will contribute to protecting the environment and the health of the population.

Fernando Mario Gonzalez, First Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), and Xiaquing Wu, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection of China, signed the document in Havana.

Celso Pazos, director of the Meteorology Institute (INSMET), thanked the government of the People's Republic of China and the company Industrial Development Co. Ltd. for the donation.

Xiaquing Wu, deputy minister of the Asian nation, said the donation is part of mutual cooperation projects in science and technology as well as in the field of air pollution.

Osvaldo Cuesta, director of CECQA, told reporters that once in operation, the modern facilities will contribute to complete research on the impact of nitrogen oxides, gaseous components of ozone, carbon monoxide and particles in general.
