Havana, November 11 (RHC)-- A Chinese Navy three-warship detachment is currently paying a friendly visit to Havana on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and China.

This first visit to Cuba by a Chinese naval group demonstrates the feeling of brotherhood between the two countries, said First Captain Wang Jiangxun, who heads the detachment.

Wang, who is also deputy Chief of Staff of the Eastern Sea Fleet of the Chinese Navy, said that the presence of the military ships in Havana offers an opportunity to consolidate relations between the navies of Cuba and China.

In his welcoming address to the Chinese visitors, the second Chief of the Cuban Revolutionary Navy, Captain Idalberto Moreno and the Chinese ambassador to Havana, Zhang Tuo, pointed to the excellent level of bilateral relations.

Cuban officials were invited onboard the Destroyer DDG-152 Jinan and briefed on the characteristics of the warship and its weapon system. Along with the destroyer came the Frigate FFG-584 Yiyang and the logistics ship AOR-886 named Qiandaohu.

The Chinese military will stay in Havana until Saturday to visit the headquarters of the Cuban navy, local authorities, the naval academy and places of historic and cultural interest.
