Malabo, December 4 (RHC)-- The Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Equatorial Guinea Juan Ndong Nguema has thanked the Cuban government and people for Cuba's health cooperation with his country, ever since the sub-Saharan African country achieved its independence in 1968.

At a ceremony in Malabo, the country's capital, to say farewell to members of the Cuban health brigade, who traveled there to fight against the Ebola virus, Minister Nguema announced that he will visit Cuba soon to explore new areas for health cooperation.

Cuban Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea Pedro Doña thanked the Cuban health collaborators for what he termed as 'a well-done job' and reiterated Cuba's commitment to continue assisting Equatorial Guinea towards improved health indicators.

The Cuban health specialists offered their services in Equatorial Guinea, prior, during and after the Africa Cup of Nations was held, from January 17th through February 8th, 2015. Their mission was to prevent the spread of the deadly into the country. With that aim, they established strict controls in the country's air, land and marine ports of entry, as well as the soccer stadiums.

Once the soccer tournament concluded, the Cuban health collaborators remained in Equatorial Guinea, training other Cuban and Equatorial Guinean health specialists in the fight against Ebola and other diseases.
