Geneva, December 11 (RHC-PL)-- Cuba has reaffirmed in Geneva its firm commitment to guaranteeing all Cuban citizens the full exercise of their human rights, in the context of Human Rights Day, which is observed every year on December 10th.

A statement issued by the Cuban permanent commission at the UN Human Rights Office, highlights the achievements attained by the Cuban people over more than five decades of the socialist revolution.

Among these achievements, the Cuban mission in Geneva specifically mentions a high human development index that is recognized by the United Nations in its 2014 human development report, which places the Caribbean country 44th out of 187 nations worldwide.

The delegation emphasized that such achievements have been realized despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. for over five decades.

It also noted that the consolidation of free health care and education for all, full elimination by law of gender based discrimination, and environmental protection are among state policies, which guarantee Cubans the full exercise of their human rights.
