Havana, December 16 (RHC)-- Cuban President Raul Castro received Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis, who paid an official visit to Cuba.

During their talks on Tuesday, both leaders addressed the situation of thousands of Cubans stranded in Costa Rica on the border with Nicaragua.

Raul Castro reiterated that the U.S. "dry-feet, wet-feet" policy, the so-called medical parole program for Cuban doctors in third countries and the Cuban Adjustment Act encourage illegal migration and put at risk the integrity of the migrants.

The Cuban president also said that U.S. policies are discriminatory with respect to other countries of the region and lead to serious problems for those nations and also for the United States.

The two presidents agreed to the necessity of finding a quick solution to the problem that guarantees the wellbeing of the Cuban citizens and contributes to legal, safe and orderly migration. The Cuban president said that those who are now in Costa Rica and who wish to return to the island have the right to do so, as established by Cuba's migration law.

The two heads of state also exchanged views on the good bilateral relations between their nations and agreed to strengthen those links. They also addressed several international issues during their official talks, just before the Costa Rican leader concluded his two-day stay in Havana.
