Havana, December 17 (RHC-PL) -- The President of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca, paid tribute to the African hero Amilcar Cabral in the context of his official visit to Cuba.

The president of Cape Verde visited African Heroes Park in Havana to pay tribute to Cabral, hero and central figure in the independence movement in Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde.

As part of his agenda in Cuba, Fonseca held a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro, in which the two leaders noted the positive progress of bilateral relations and agreed on the desire to continue developing them.

Furthermore, with the aim of extending to his country the Cuban experience in the field of biotechnology, the Cape Verdean President toured the Center of Molecular Immunology, where he was briefed about the functioning of the institution.

As part of his stay on the island, the African head of state will meet Friday with leaders of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution.

Cuba and Cape Verde this year celebrated four decades of relations, established shortly after the archipelago -- in the Atlantic Ocean about 500 kilometers off the coast of Senegal -- gained independence from Portugal on July 5, 1975.
