Havana, December 28 (RHC)-- As of January, 2016, Cuban authorities will authorize the granting of new loans to cooperative farms to boost agricultural production, particularly livestock.

Addressing the Cuban Parliament's permanent commission on food and agriculture, Cuba's Deputy Agriculture Minister Ydael Perez Brito said that the main beneficiaries will be the Basic Units of Cooperative Production (UBPC).

The agriculture official said the funding aims to boost the production of meat and milk in these specialized farms.

He explained that the measure is in response to one of the problems identified by a monitoring and control commission.

He added that Cuban authorities will introduce modifications to the existing procedures and conditions for bank financing to those units devoted to cattle raising, taking into account the financial capacity of each farm, the characteristics of the region, where they are located and the purposes for which the loans are requested.
