Guatemala City, January 13 (RHC)-- On Wednesday the first group of Cuban migrants arrived in Guatemala from El Salvador, to continue their journey to the United States through Central America. This according to Guatemala's immigration officials.

The group of 180 people, 39 women and 141 men, are paying for the costs of their transfer themselves, including visas and taxes required in the countries they transit.

Costa Rican Foreign Minister Manuel González, termed the transfer so far as successful. He also announced a new meeting between government representatives from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico and Honduras to evaluate the results of this pilot plan.

Cuban and Central American governments have repeatedly called on the U.S. government to repeal the Cuban Adjustment Act and other pieces of anti-Cuba legislation, which encourage illegal migration of Cubans to the United States.
