Havana, March 21 (RHC)-- On Monday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is meeting in Havana with negotiators, representing the government of Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP).

The expressed aim of the meeting is to learn first hand about the latest advances in the ongoing process towards peace in the South America country.

Kerry was scheduled to first meet separately with the head of the government delegation Humberto de la Calle and later with FARC-EP spokespersons. Also present were the foreign ministers of Colombia, María Ángela Holguín and Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, as well as Bernard Aronson, the special envoy of the U.S. government for the Colombia peace process.

Although the two sides had set March 23rd as the deadline for the signing of a final peace agreements, both President Santos and FARC Commander Timoleón Jiménez, have stated the possibility of prolonging the peace talks beyond that deadline in view of the complexity of issues still pending solutions.
