Havana, April 8 (RHC)-- Myrta Kaulard, Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Cuba has commended Cuba's efforts in the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), among them HIV-AIDS.

Addressing participants in a roundtable discussion here in Havana on UNDP's 50th anniversary, Myrta Kaulard said Cuba is among the Latin American countries with the lowest incidence of HIV-AIDS, and she added that this is a direct result of the country's free, high-quality, functional health care system, as well as the priority Cuban authorities give to the training of highly skilled human resources in the most diverse social areas.

The UN official further confirmed that UNDP will honor its cooperation plan with the Caribbean state through 2030. It includes input donations and cooperation in research studies on the detection of sexually transmitted diseases and antiretroviral treatments.
