Guatemala City, April 13 (RHC)-- The Government of Guatemala has acknowledged the work done by the members of the Cuban Medical Brigade (BMC) in that country, where they have treated 39 million 468,000 cases over the past 17 years.

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales and representatives of several caucuses said they support the benefits provided by Cuban health professionals, especially in those remote regions where they work.

During a courtesy visit to lawmakers from the political movement Winaq and the Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteca, the URNG, as well as other friends of Cuba, the general coordinator of the Cuban medical brigade, Manolo Torres, received many expressions of gratitude.

The lawmakers assessed the contribution of Cuban doctors since their arrival in November 1998, in the context of the disaster caused by Hurricane Mitch.

The Guatemalan president acknowledged the work of medical aid workers from Cuba and thanked what he called their "noble and valuable assistance," on behalf of the people and Government of Guatemala.
