Havana, May 9 (RHC-ACN) The European Union and Cuba face common challenges in areas such as agriculture, demography and economic growth, said European Union ambassador to Cuba Hernan Portocarero.

Portocarero spoke with Cuban newspaper Granma about the negotiation process to consolidate bilateral cooperation relations between the EU and the Caribbean state.

The EU ambassador recalled that in March the two sides concluded a negotiation process to advance long-term bilateral links.

“The meetings served to learn how to get to know each other better, we talked politics in general terms and at times we faced each other in specific issues,” said the ambassador and added that this is a learning process.

He added: “For the first time we have a far-reaching accord containing nearly all issues relevant to political and cooperation dialog for development, security, investment, and legal collaboration, migration and human rights.”

Referring to bilateral cooperation, the EU diplomat said both sides are considering future areas in details, among them agriculture, food production and climate change, management update and foreign trade.
