Havana, June 15 (RHC)-- An editorial in Cuba's daily newspaper Granma has called on Cubans to participate actively in public debates on two important documents discussed at last April's 7th Congress of the Communist Party (PCC). The paper argues that both texts are indispensable to consolidate the national consensus regarding the country's future.

Entitled 'Debate on Cuba's Future', Wednesday's editorial refers to the Draft Conceptualization of the Cuban Economic and Social Model and the National Economic and Social Development Plan through 2030, which will be submitted to debate and discussion by members of the Party and the Young Communist League, as well as by representatives of mass organizations and broad sectors of Cuban society, from June 15th through September 20th.   

Granma insists that the opinions collected during those meetings will be taken into account in making any necessary modifications to both texts before they are sent to the National Assembly of People's Power for their final approval.

The editorial adds that the current consultation process further strengthens the humanistic character of a Revolution which upon reaching 58 years since its inception, does not consider its work complete, a Revolution that seeks to improve quality of life, not only for the collective, but in terms of family and personal projects.

In that sense, it emphasizes that decisions made with regard to the Cuban economy will never, under any circumstances, mean a break with the ideals of equality and social justice of the Revolution and much less, with the prevailing strong unity among the vast majority of the people around the Communist Party. Neither will we allow such measures to generate instability or uncertainty within the Cuban population.”
