Cuban science has played a fundamental role in the confrontation of COVID-19.  Remarkable international results have been achieved, creating a favorable scenario towards the resumption of the country’s normal activities, which will be gradually restored over time.

Our scientists have been steadily searching for protocols and treatments that might help fight the disease caused by the new coronavirus and protect the peoples’ health.

Some medicinal drugs created as a result of the country’s scientific community research have been successfully applied to infected patients and vulnerable sectors, in order to increase the body’s defenses.

For instance, the interferon Alpha and Beta stand out, given that they help reduce the virus lethality.  On the television program Mesa Redonda, the president of BioCubaFarma business group, Dr. Eduardo Martínez Díaz, specified that the average decease rate is less than one per percent in patients when given these medications.

There are other drugs that also boost the immune system and represent the outcome of Cuban scientists’ tireless work. 

In nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals and other institutions, Biomodulin T was similarly applied and has succeeded in the stimulation of the immune system, not only in the prevention of COVID-19, but also in the improvement of the health conditions of the most vulnerable.

Researchers are also working on the development of three new diagnostic kits that will permit quick detection of those infected with the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2.

Cuban scientific work has been essential in the country's fight against the pandemic.  Despite the U.S. blockade of the island and limits on the acquisition of raw materials and equipment, the researchers‘ competence, good will and commitment have allowed Cuba to overcome these difficulties and achieve significant results to improve health for all.
