The name of Cuba has been persistently heard in the 75th Session of the United Nations.  Many heads of State and Government have expressed their rejection of the criminal blockade of the United States against Cuba.  Likewise, they have recognized that this aggressive and obsolete policy they deplore, has intensified, even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

The debate reaffirmed the world's condemnation of a unilateral measure that hinders the development of the island, as expressed by Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on his Twitter account.

European, Latin American, Asian and African countries all agreed that the blockade disregards human rights and the cooperative spirit advocated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Africa made its voice heard for several reasons.  African nations have always supported the Caribbean nation in its struggle to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade, and because we are linked by common roots.

Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Namibia, Gabon, the Congo and Kenya, among others, once again expressed their solidarity with Cuba, which amid of the global health emergency is being hampered in its confrontation with COVID-19 by Washington's irrational policy.

South Africa, as current president of the African Union, called for an end to this economic and commercial siege.  Every year, the African Union adopts a resolution rejecting the blockade, since it has been in effect for more than 60 years and has caused billions of dollars in damage to Cuba.  At the same time, it violates the most basic human rights of its people.

Participating countries also highlighted Cuba's contribution to the global confrontation against COVID-19.  In fact, Guinea Bisau’s president, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, described the island as a champion in every global struggle for health.

Every year at the beginning of a new session of the United Nations, many heads of state and government express their support for the just struggle of Cuba to put an end to the economic and commercial blockade imposed by Washington, which has firmly maintained an aggressive policy that has clashed with international solidarity and the resistance of an entire nation.
