The decrease in Cuba of active cases and deaths due to COVID-19 represents a respite for scientists and health personnel who have shown so much efficiency and abnegation, but it is opportune to banish complacency among citizens.

The downward reports since the complicated days of four thousand and more cases evidenced the best behavior, especially in the month of October.

However, the guard will still NOT be lowered, as circumstances dictate, because several provinces have high rates of SARS-Cov-2 infection and all the attention of science and the hospital system is concentrated there.

All this without neglecting the provinces where there are fewer mishaps with the disease, as maintaining the downward propensity is crucial.

Of course, the above-mentioned encouraging behavior is based on solid foundations, especially a successful vaccination campaign with indigenous substances, three of which have been approved for the emergency phase by a strict regulatory agency.

The immunization with three doses of local injectables of almost 60 percent of the population eligible to do so stands out in the path to cut the high transmissions of July, August and early September, which put the health system under stress.

In this way, scientists and health workers are opening new doors, as shown by the clinical trial with their own Soberana Plus biologic in children and adolescents convalescing from COVID-19.

In favor of those who played the leading role in such a hard period in the face of the pandemic in Cuba, the recovery of patients, which has exceeded 97 percent of those infected, is also a success.

No one denies, however, the pain of families who have lost loved ones despite the efforts of health professionals and also the problems caused by the impact of the pandemic on the economy.

Consequently, all citizens must continue to wear masks and wash their hands, even though in several provinces they are gradually resuming face-to-face activities, in view of the improvement of the health situation.

The news about the decrease in the number of infections does not imply a green light for citizens, overly optimistic, to return to the way things were before the pandemic, with the untenable argument that they have been confined for a long time.
