After his participation as a deputy in the intense days of debate in the National Assembly of People's Power, Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel traveled to Santiago de Cuba, which in the next few hours will host the central act for the 70th anniversary of the Assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Barracks.

The decision to choose Santiago de Cuba, announced earlier this month, was based on the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party due to the progress made by the province in the political, economic and social fields, and the active participation of the people of Santiago de Cuba in all the processes.

The hero city, Diaz Canel stressed, was chosen not only for its history, but also for its results.

The president returns to the eastern city in less than a month. At the end of last June, together with other officials, he made his fourth governmental visit, in which he evaluated the development strategies.

The tour allowed him to know the potential of the province in general, to advance in decisive programs such as food production in order to meet the demands of the population.

Neighborhoods under transformation and other rehabilitated works were visited by Díaz Canel, who in an exchange with the people insisted on the importance of the participation of all the inhabitants in these actions.

These visits that are made to all the territories of the Caribbean country on a regular basis are part of the working method put in place, since 2018, by the government to learn about the concerns of the citizens and how it works to provide solutions to various problems.

Now is a new opportunity to know how much is done and can be done in Santiago de Cuba, which treasures a history of struggle, and a great cultural wealth.

But on this occasion also to visit the remodeling works carried out in salute to the National Rebellion Day, such as the 26th of July School City, formerly Moncada Barracks. The facilities were totally renovated.

In a few hours Santiago de Cuba will be the scene of another historic moment. The people of Santiago, on behalf of all the people, will pay tribute to those brave young people who on July 26, 1953 led the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks, an action that was the driving force of the Cuban Revolution.
