Meeting of ANPP Working Commissions

By María Josefina Arce

The deputies of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba are working for the benefit of the interests of the people, and to that end the permanent working commissions have been evaluating since this week the fulfillment of agreements adopted by the legislative body and which have a great impact on the population.

Specifically, those approved in the first and second Ordinary Period of sessions of the Parliament in its Tenth Legislature, whose constitutive session took place on April 19 last year, are being analyzed.

For this partial control, we have selected the agreements that require a greater impulse due to their impact on the life of the citizens.

A prominent place in the debates is therefore occupied by the Law on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security, approved in May 2022 and whose implementation has not yet achieved the desired impact on food production.

In this regard, the president of the Cuban Parliament, Esteban Lazo, pointed out that food production is a problem of the whole nation and called for strengthening agriculture with a collective effort.

The commissions arrived at this process after an intense analysis with the inhabitants of different territories of the country, both in the communities and in labor and educational centers.

These meetings allow them to learn about the concerns, opinions and suggestions of the population that contribute so much to develop a better work that translates into the welfare of citizens.

In recent months, the deputies have visited five provinces of the country, among them Granma, Guantánamo and Santi Spiritus, where they toured several municipalities and talked with their inhabitants, who are aware of the problems affecting their communities.

In these tours, which is an inseparable part of the legislators' work, they visited more than 550 institutions and work centers and contacted more than 17,000 people.

Marta Hernández Romero, coordinator of the parliamentary commissions, highlighted the importance of this exchange with the population, which, she said, allows them to arrive at this analysis more prepared, and aware of what they should continue to insist and work on.

These meetings for the partial review of the agreements of the National Assembly of People's Power, in which the directors of the different bodies also participate, make it possible to determine in which direction to work in order to continue promoting the economy and social policies in favor of the welfare of the population, the main objective of the legislative body, representative of the interests of the people.
