Cuba stands up to terrorism

By Roberto Morejón

The public report in Cuba on the dismantling of a new terrorist plan, organized from the United States and whose main executor appeared in a video, providing details of the conspiracy, has been widely disseminated abroad.

The Cuban Ministry of the Interior provided details of a recruitment plan directed from the territory of the Northern power to create conditions in the Caribbean archipelago for the promotion of terrorist actions.

Neutralized last December, exhaustive investigations were necessary to determine the responsibility of the main suspect and the persons he contacted for destabilizing purposes.

The subject, identified as Ardenys García Álvarez, who illegally emigrated to the United States in 2014, returned to the Caribbean country by sea with weapons and ammunition.

According to García Álvarez's own confession and evidence provided in images broadcast on local television, he made contact in the United States with Willy González, a representative of the self-styled group La Nueva Nación Cubana en Armas (The New Cuban Nation in Arms).

The latter, who has previously appeared on television, promotes military training and feverishly advocates the use of armed struggle and sabotage against Cuba.

In addition to maintaining this relationship with these outlaws, the citizen infiltrated from the western Cuban province of Matanzas recruited in this country some people who had already been arrested.

Among the objectives of the conspirators here were the attack on military units and the seizure of weapons.

The evidence presented in Havana through the testimony of a prosecutor and a senior official of the Ministry of the Interior, supported by photos and videos, highlights the effectiveness of the operation to neutralize a dangerous terrorist plan.

At the same time, it reaffirms Cuba's denunciations of the existence of groups in the territory of the United States that train for subversive purposes to carry out attacks in the neighboring archipelago.

Cuba recalled the issuance of the national list of persons and entities linked to terrorism, updated in 2023.
