The CDR, Present in Every Battle of the Cuban Revolution

By María Josefina Arce

For 64 years, the CDR has defended the achievements and values of the Revolution. During this time, several generations of Cubans have been the protagonists of countless battles to preserve the sovereignty and independence of the homeland.

Born on September 28, 1960, in the midst of constant imperialist aggression against the nascent revolutionary process, the largest mass organization in the country has been a bulwark of the revolution from the neighborhoods and communities.

The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution have been constantly changing and improving throughout the years, adding new tasks to their daily work.

Thus, in addition to their basic goal of revolutionary vigilance against the activities of the enemy from within, they also have other responsibilities such as the recovery of raw materials, participation in the formation of the organs of the people's power, the census and other social, economic and political activities.

They are, for example, an essential element in the support of civil defense, in the face of natural phenomena, in the protection of the inhabitants of the different communities and economic resources.

They have made a valuable contribution to the health system with their constant voluntary blood donations, which have saved many lives.

During the COVID 19 pandemic, many young members of the organization  offered their solidarity in every community of the country to vulnerable people, such as the elderly, and also participated in studies to prevent the spread of the disease caused by the new corona virus.

But they also collaborated, with the dynamism that characterizes youth, in isolation centers and, of course, as health workers in various institutions of the health system.

Gerardo Hernández, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and National Coordinator of the CDRs, emphasized that the organization's commitment is to continue working for a better future for Cuba.

Without a doubt, to speak of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution is to speak of an entire people that for more than six decades has defended the integrity of the homeland from all fronts.
